Connecting to the Global Supply Chain: An Inevitable Direction for Vietnamese Businesses

30/09/2024

In the context of a volatile global economy, integrating into the global supply chain is becoming an inevitable trend for Vietnamese businesses. This presents both an opportunity to expand markets, access advanced technology, and improve competitiveness, and a challenge that requires rapid adaptation and continuous effort.

The Export Forum 2024 with the theme "Connecting the International Goods Supply Chain" held in Ho Chi Minh City has attracted great attention from the business community. The event is an opportunity for experts, managers, and businesses to exchange, share experiences, and find solutions to promote exports and enhance the position of Vietnamese goods in the international market.

Impressive Figures

According to data from the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Vietnam's export turnover in 2023 reached 354.7 billion USD, with a trade surplus of 28.3 billion USD. Notably, exports to FTA markets reached 230.5 billion USD, accounting for nearly 65% of total export turnover. This result shows that new-generation FTAs such as CPTPP, EVFTA, and UKVFTA are having a positive effect, opening the door to integration for Vietnamese businesses.

Challenges and Opportunities Intertwined

Besides positive signals, Vietnamese businesses are also facing many difficulties. Fierce competition from other countries, geopolitical fluctuations, and increasingly high requirements for quality standards and sustainable development are posing significant challenges.

However, difficulties are also opportunities for Vietnamese businesses to improve themselves, innovate, and be creative. Digital transformation, application of advanced technology, and development of green and circular economies are inevitable trends that businesses need to grasp to enhance their competitiveness and deeply integrate into the global value chain.

Support from Policies and Orientation

Recognizing the importance of connecting to the supply chain, the Government and localities are actively implementing many policies to support businesses. Ho Chi Minh City, as the economic locomotive of the country, is focusing on supporting businesses in innovation, digital transformation, and green transition.

Focus on Sustainable Development

Sustainable development is not only a trend but also an inevitable requirement for businesses in the current context of integration. Businesses need to proactively apply circular economy and green economy models, reduce emissions, achieve carbon neutrality, and meet international standards on social and environmental responsibility.

The journey of Vietnamese businesses to integrate into the global supply chain still has many challenges, but with the efforts of businesses themselves, along with support from policies, Vietnamese businesses will surely achieve many successes and affirm their position in the international market.
