International Retail Giants Share Experiences and Seek Goods in Vietnam

10/11/2024

The "Connecting the International Goods Supply Chain 2024" (Vietnam International Sourcing 2024) event will take place in Ho Chi Minh City in early June, promising to open up golden opportunities for Vietnamese businesses to connect with leading global retail groups.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the event will attract the participation of a series of "giants" such as Aeon, Uniqlo (Japan); Walmart, Amazon, Safeway (USA); Falabella (Chile); Carrefour, Decathlon (France); Central Group (Thailand); and many other international buyers.

These retail groups all expressed their desire to find quality goods from Vietnam. Mr. Paul Le, Vice President of Central Retail, said that 95% of the products in Central Retail's supermarket system in Vietnam are Vietnamese goods, and the group is looking for more potential products, especially coffee.

Aeon Topvalu also set an ambitious goal of exporting 1 billion USD worth of Vietnamese goods through its system by 2025. Mr. Yuichiro Shiotani, Director of Aeon Topvalu Vietnam, said that Aeon will increase its procurement of Vietnamese garments, household goods, food, and agricultural products. Lulu Group International also affirmed that it will continue to seek goods from Vietnam, especially bananas and coffee, for distribution in the Middle Eastern and Malaysian markets.

However, to seize this opportunity, Vietnamese businesses need to make efforts to improve their competitiveness and meet stringent standards for quality, green production, and sustainable development.

Mr. Yuichiro Shiotani (Aeon Topvalu) emphasized that Vietnamese businesses are fully capable of meeting international standards; the key issue is the determination and effort of each business. In addition, Vietnamese businesses need to proactively research market information and build appropriate access strategies. Mr. Nguyen Duc Trong, Head of New Supplier Development at Walmart, said that most Vietnamese goods entering Walmart go through intermediaries. Vietnamese businesses need to be more proactive to directly approach large distribution systems.

Viet Nam International Sourcing 2024 is a golden opportunity for Vietnamese businesses to directly meet, exchange, and establish cooperative relationships with international buyers, contributing to bringing Vietnamese goods to the world.
