Vietnamese Businesses: Seizing Golden Opportunities from FTAs and Global Distribution Giants
In the context of a fluctuating global economy, effectively utilizing Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) and connecting with major distribution corporations worldwide are becoming key to the development of Vietnamese businesses.
The Export Forum 2024, with the theme "Connecting the International Goods Supply Chain", took place with enthusiastic participation, attracting the attention of a large number of businesses, experts, and representatives from leading global retail groups.
FTAs - A Lever for Exports
According to Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Phan Thi Thang, Vietnam's export turnover in the first 5 months of 2024 reached 156.5 billion USD, an increase of 15% over the same period last year. Notably, exports to FTA markets have all recovered positively. New-generation FTAs have created a vast market network, helping Vietnamese businesses confidently reach out to the world.
In 2023, Vietnam's total export turnover to FTA markets reached 230.5 billion USD, accounting for nearly 65% of total export turnover. This figure confirms the important role of FTAs in promoting Vietnam's exports.
Global Distribution Giants Seek Out Vietnam
The COVID-19 pandemic and recent geopolitical instabilities have prompted leading global retail and wholesale corporations to step up their supply chain diversification strategies. Vietnam, with its advantages in geographical location, abundant labor resources, and a stable investment environment, is becoming an attractive destination in the global supply chain.
At the forum, representatives from large corporations such as Coppel, Uniqlo, and Walmart all expressed their interest and desire to expand cooperation with Vietnamese businesses.
Mr. Aly Ansari, General Director of Walmart Vietnam, said that Vietnam is one of Walmart's most important sourcing markets in Asia. Vietnamese goods such as garments, electronics, toys, and food are all sought after by Walmart.
Ho Chi Minh City Supports Businesses in Connecting to the Supply Chain
Mr. Nguyen Van Dung, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, affirmed that the city will continue to accompany and support businesses to overcome difficulties and challenges, helping them to deeply participate in the international goods supply chain.

Sustainable Development - A Key Factor
Businesses participating in the forum are all aware of the importance of sustainable development. Compliance with international environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards is becoming a mandatory requirement for participating in the global supply chain.
The Export Forum 2024 concluded successfully, contributing to providing information, strategic direction, and trade connections for Vietnamese businesses. In the context of increasingly deep international integration, effectively utilizing FTAs, connecting with large distribution corporations, and aiming for sustainable development will be the key to success for Vietnamese businesses.
