According to the Lao Cai Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, by the end of 2023, Lao Cai will have 47 models of linking agricultural products between enterprises, cooperatives and households. The scale of the linkage is up to 11,000 hectares with about 12,000 participating households; the total value of linked consumption reaches over 1,200 billion VND.

Some typical value chain linkage models and projects include: tea linkage model, scale of over 3,300 ha/3,000 households; cinnamon linkage model, scale of 7,850 ha/3,500 households; pineapple linkage model 350 ha/750 households; banana linkage model 175 ha/250 households... Besides, there are also effective value chain linkage models between cooperatives and households such as: cold water fish product linkage model; mulberry and silkworm farming product linkage model; off-season vegetable growing model; chili product linkage model...
In addition, implementing national target programs, up to now, the province has 81 projects linking production according to value chains. The projects mainly focus on developing the province's key industries (medicinal herbs, tea, pineapple, banana, pig); temperate fruit trees; initially forming concentrated commodity production areas such as: Tea 8,279 ha, medicinal herbs 1,031 ha, banana 2,017 ha, pineapple 2,217 ha, cinnamon 60,487 ha, temperate fruit trees 4,507 ha...
Mr. Do Van Duy - Director of Lao Cai Department of Agriculture and Rural Development - said that production linkage has gradually changed the mindset of relying on and waiting for state support of the people. The subjects share benefits and responsibilities with each other, regulate market supply and demand and trace the origin of products; be more proactive in planning, control the production process, improve production efficiency, ensure product output, reduce price risks. People have quick access to science and technology, modern production processes in agriculture; increase income for farmers and businesses.
In addition, trade promotion activities are also promoted, thereby creating opportunities for businesses, cooperatives, and production establishments in the province to promote and introduce products, exchange and seek partners, connect supply and demand, and cooperate to develop production and consume products.
Enterprises, cooperatives, and production establishments in the agricultural sector in Lao Cai province are guided and supported to grasp information on agricultural product markets; update information on market demand and development trends.
Support businesses and cooperatives to participate in promoting and advertising the province's products through the online environment such as: Lao Cai province's e-commerce platform, Lazada, shopee, Sendo, Tiki, zalo group, facebook... According to data from the Department of Industry and Trade of Lao Cai province , there are currently 61 booths, with 239 products of 56 cooperatives in the province posted on Lao Cai province's e-commerce platform ( http://laocaitrade.vn ).
At the same time, participate in displaying and introducing safe agricultural products, 3-star and 4-star OCOP products at 3 fairs and markets in provinces and cities across the country. In addition, provide information and register companies, enterprises, and cooperatives producing products in Lao Cai province to participate in events and fairs across the country. Participation in fairs and exhibitions has supported the expansion of the market for local agricultural products and OCOP products . Create opportunities for enterprises, cooperatives, and production facilities to visit, study, promote, promote trade, and exchange experiences during the fair. At the same time, exchange and seek partners, connect supply and demand, help distribution enterprises have the opportunity to find goods for joint ventures, cooperate to develop production; contribute to the formation of value chains.
Along with that, the production and consumption situation of the province's key products and potential products is regularly monitored and summarized monthly to promptly connect and consume when agricultural products encounter difficulties.
Up to now, Lao Cai province has had 105 enterprises and cooperatives participating in the information transparency system, electronic traceability of agricultural products with 329 safe agricultural product lines granted QR CODE. Deploying the system to support trade promotion of agricultural products in Lao Cai province, there have been over 220 enterprises/cooperatives/facilities participating in interaction, introducing and promoting products on the system with 406 product lines... Thereby, it has actively supported enterprises and farmers in consuming agricultural products, improving the competitiveness and advantages of local agricultural products...
Connecting and creating sustainable output for local agricultural products
The story of market connection and trade promotion is not only necessary for export goods but also really urgent for domestic goods in general and agricultural products and local specialties in particular. In particular, retail channels are the effective bridge between producers and consumers.
Ms. Le Viet Nga - Deputy Director of the Domestic Market Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) - said that in the process of domestic market growth, the distribution system has focused on consuming Vietnamese goods, thereby contributing to stimulating domestic production. Currently, on supermarket shelves, convenience stores, in urban and rural areas, Vietnamese goods always account for 85 - 90%.
In 2024, Lao Cai province will organize 22 trade fairs and exhibitions in 9 districts, towns and cities. Priority areas for organizing trade fairs and exhibitions in 2024 are food products; tree and flower products; endemic agricultural products; OCOP products; typical rural industrial products; local cuisine; handicrafts; wooden products; rattan and bamboo; ceramics; tourism products; products, regional products, typical products, agricultural products of localities inside and outside the province; agricultural products of ethnic minorities...
According to the Lao Cai Department of Industry and Trade , organizing fairs and exhibitions, opening booths to introduce products, connecting cooperatives to participate in the supply chain to bring products to the market... are effective solutions to promote the expansion of the market for goods and agricultural products for people in ethnic minority areas.
To accompany farmers, cooperatives, and businesses, Mr. Do Van Duy said that in the coming time, Lao Cai will pay attention to evaluating and forecasting the market, regularly updating and grasping information on the supply and demand of agricultural products . This is the basis to help farmers and businesses research and adjust production and business directions to meet market demand and proactively find output for agricultural products, and is the basis for establishing long-term contracts between producers and processors and consumers of products.
In addition, the locality will increase attraction and encourage enterprises and cooperatives to invest in agriculture and rural areas; support the introduction and connection of capable and reputable enterprises to participate in consumption linkages so that people can feel secure in production. At the same time, strengthen the role of cooperatives in the chain by encouraging the merger of cooperatives in the same field in the same district or province to concentrate development resources.
