Ho Chi Minh City Accelerates International Trade Connectivity and Expands Export Markets

14/10/2025

Amid ongoing fluctuations in the global economy, Viet Nam is actively advancing its strategy of diversifying export markets, products, and distribution channels. As the country’s largest economic hub, Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) continues to play a pivotal role in strengthening international trade linkages and supporting domestic enterprises in reaching new markets.

Strengthening Global Supply Chain Linkages through Viet Nam International Sourcing

A key highlight in recent years is the “Viet Nam International Sourcing (VIS)” series, jointly organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) and the HCMC People’s Committee since 2023. The platform has evolved into a major international sourcing hub, gathering global buyers, distributors, and manufacturers seeking reliable partners in Viet Nam.

According to Mr. Tạ Hoàng Linh, Director General of the Agency for Foreign Market Development under MOIT, the first two editions of VIS recorded more than 4,000 business-matching sessions, connecting over 600 Vietnamese enterprises with hundreds of international partners. These engagements not only opened new export opportunities but also enabled domestic firms to access foreign suppliers of raw materials, machinery, and production technologies—thereby enhancing cost efficiency and improving competitiveness.

In addition to traditional markets such as the United States, the European Union, Japan, and the Republic of Korea, VIS 2025 is expected to welcome more buyer delegations from the Middle East, Latin America, and Eastern Europe—regions that are emerging as promising destinations for Vietnamese exports. This expansion will support Vietnamese enterprises in leveraging the 17 Free Trade Agreements to which Viet Nam is a party, helping reduce market concentration risks and increase resilience in global trade.

HCMC Leveraging Its Strategic Role to Promote Trade and Market Expansion

Holding the position of a trade gateway for the southern key economic region, HCMC is proactively implementing comprehensive measures to strengthen enterprise capabilities, respond to evolving global consumption trends, and support market diversification.

Mr. Trần Phú Lữ, Director of the Investment and Trade Promotion Centre of HCMC (ITPC), emphasized that the current global restructuring of supply chains presents a “golden window” for Vietnamese businesses to engage more deeply with international investors, adopt advanced technologies, and integrate into high-value segments of global production networks.

HCMC also enjoys the advantage of rapidly capturing shifts in global standards and consumer preferences. This enables the city to guide enterprises in adjusting their production and business strategies—particularly in areas such as sustainable manufacturing, green supply chains, and compliance with international regulations.

A key focus of the city’s export support initiatives is facilitating direct interaction between Vietnamese enterprises and international buyers. Through B2B meetings, thematic seminars, and structured supply chain matching programs, businesses gain timely access to market intelligence, regulatory updates, and buyer requirements. These activities allow firms to better plan their export strategies and enhance their readiness to participate in major sourcing networks.

In parallel, HCMC continues to strengthen its role as an information hub, providing businesses with updated data on global market developments, import–export policies, and technical standards across key economies, thereby supporting long-term planning and sustainable export growth.
