What products have the highest import turnover of Vietnam from other CPTPP countries after 4 years since the CPTPP Agreement took effect?

The CPTPP Agreement has been officially put into effect for nearly 4 years. It's the first new-generation free trade agreement that Vietnam is a member of, therefore, the Agreement has brought great export and import opportunities for the economy, especially for potential industries of Vietnam.

In 2019, the first year that the Agreement has been put into effect, imports from other CPTPP markets are basically reduced or increased slightly. Imports reached 37.9 billion USD, up 0.7% compared to 2018. In 2020, import turnover from CPTPP markets continued to grow at 5.9%, reaching 40.3 billion USD.  In 2021, import turnover reached 45.6 billion USD, up 13.15% compared to the previous year.

Among the CPTPP member countries, Canada, Mexico and Peru are the three countries that we do not have an FTA with.  For Canada, in 2021, imports from Canada slightly increased, reaching 760.7 million USD, up about 4.7% compared to 2020. Major import products from Canada were machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts with about 153.2 million USD, up about 171% compared to 2020.

For the Mexican market, we mainly import machinery, equipment, tools, spare parts and computers, electronic products, components, with import turnover in 2021 reaching 88.8 million USD and 230.68 million USD. 

For the Japanese market, we mainly import computers and electrical products, components (6.2 billion USD), machinery, equipment, tools, spare parts (4.4 billion USD), iron and steel of all kinds…

For the Australian market, we mainly import ores and minerals (1.67 billion USD), coal of all kinds (2.1 billion USD), wheat (940 million USD)…

In 11 months of 2022, Vietnam's major import products from Canada are seafood (55.131 million USD), machinery, equipment, and spare parts (43.7 million USD), soybeans (61 million USD), fertilizers of all kinds (74.4, million USD)… . For the Mexican market, we mainly import machinery, equipment and computers of all kinds.

For the New Zealand market, we mainly import milk and dairy products (329.6 million USD), vegetables and fruits (122.6 million USD)... For the Japanese market, imports in the 11 months of 2022 are up to 21.4 billion USD. Viet Nam’s major import products from Japan are iron and steel of all kinds, computers of all kinds, machinery and equipment spare parts...

For the Australian market, in the 11 months of 2022, imports from Australia reach US$9.4 billion, including items such as wheat, ores and minerals, coal of all kinds, cotton of all kinds...
