This is the reason why Vietnamese rice can stand firm in the EU market. Rice exports to the EU maintained prosperity from last year to this year.

According to commitments from the EVFTA Agreement, the EU gives Vietnam a quota of 80,000 tons of rice each year, including: 30,000 tons of milled rice, 20,000 tons of unmilled rice and 30,000 tons of fragrant rice. In particular, the EU will completely liberalize broken rice. This commitment will help Vietnam export an estimated 100,000 tons to the EU annually. For rice products, the EU will bring the tax rate to 0% after 3-5 years.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, although the volume of rice exports to the EU is not large compared to other regional markets, the added value is very high because the 27 EU countries are markets consuming high-quality fragrant rice products from Vietnam. . This is a demanding market but is willing to pay high prices for quality products. At the same time, businesses also make the most of the amount of rice exported under tariff quotas to enjoy the 0% tax that the EU gives to Vietnam. Statistics show that in 2022, rice exports to the EU market will increase sharply, reaching 94,510 tons of rice and exceeding the annual quota of 80,000 tons of rice that the EU has for Vietnam under commitments from the EVFTA Agreement.

This result shows that the quality of Vietnam's rice is increasing and meeting strict requirements from demanding markets and shows that traders are taking good advantage of EVFTA incentives and promotion programs. Government commerce.

According to statistics, in the last 5 years, rice exports have maintained a volume of over 6 million tons/year and have tended to grow over the years, with an export value of over 3 billion USD per year. The first 6 months of 2023 reached 4.3 million tons and 2.3 billion USD, up 22% in volume and 35% in value compared to the same period in 2022.
