Algeria prohibits its private enterprises from importing all kinds of rice and beans

On February 9, 2023, the Algerian Association of Banks and Financial Institutions (ABEF) sent an official dispatch to directors of affiliated banks and financial institutions to convey the announcement of the Ministry of Trade and Promotion.


This country's exports, accordingly, from now on, the Algerian Inter-Agency Cereal Department (OAIC) will have the exclusive right to import rice and beans of all kinds, and at the same time prohibit businesses in Algeria from importing the above products even for the purpose of selling them. often used.

Therefore, banks, as import-export payment agencies, are responsible for immediately applying this measure.

Algerian businesses that need rice and beans can buy them from OAIC.

Algeria's rice import situation:

Algeria is not a large rice consumption market, only about 100,000 tons/year mainly for Asians working here and some restaurants (indigenous people eat bread). Currently imported rice is mainly parboiled rice, Basmati rice from India, Pakistan and white rice from Spain.

In 2022, Vietnam exported 266 tons of white rice to Algeria, with a turnover of 218,377 USD.
